Before I start this post I feel the need to introduce you to a couple of people, throughout these posts you will see a lot of these people so I feel they need an introduction!
This lady here (On the right) is Becca. I had met Becca before I moved to California, but only very briefly. We met in a pre-departure meeting, as we both go to the same University, where we were both speaking to a current exchange student who was studying in the same university as me. By briefly, I mean very briefly, I basically left the meeting within the first two minutes! I met up with her again the second day I was here where I hugged her outside of Target which freaked her out, cause i'm too blooming friendly. We're very similar and have the exact same sense of humour, we also spend every weekend in each others presence so you will see a lot of her in my posts (not to mention, she's the only person over here who will sing frozen with me on public transport)!
This here is Al. I met Al literally the day I arrived by complete accident, but I knew of his existence as we spoke a couple of times on Facebook about possibly flat sharing if our accommodation fell through! He also spends pretty much every weekend with us so you will also see a lot of him.
Now that introduction is out the way, let me tell you about my first Baseball game experience! It was on the 29th August that I joined a couple other international students to watch a Baseball game in Anaheim, it was the Angels vs Athletics and I genuinely swear to god had no idea what was going on. I have never been a sporty person, apart from when I was younger when I danced. Minus that, I hated PE, I hate exercise and as a gif once said, in my eyes 'the only reason to run, is if you're being chased'. Therefore, whilst Al tried to explain it to me, I had no idea what was going on, but the whole experience was awesome, starting with the stadium itself!
(Becca, Al, Me, Matt, Liam)
This experience was one that i desperately wanted to get the full 'american' atmosphere of. So to do this, I went full out and bought a foam finger when entering, luckily for me, Becca did the same, so we were the only two in the entire stadium with them. We also got given free T-Shirts which were extra large when entering, which when me and Becca put them on looked more like a dress than anything else. However, all of us got into the spirit and all looked like crazy fans together!
There were also other aspects that were far too American for me and Becca to contain our excitement over! We thought that people coming around the games with food was a complete myth, well I tell you now, it's not.
Unfortunately, due to the food being so expensive, I decided to avoid purchasing on this occasion!
There were other aspects of the game which I found so awesome too, like how they genuinely had a 'kiss cam' which you saw brothers and sisters awkwardly shaking their head to. There were also fireworks that went off anytime a team got a home run which was really awesome! Especially as we were facing opposite where the fireworks were placed right in a rocky fountain/waterfall.
Overall I would definitely recommend going to see a baseball game if you're looking for some things really American to do! Although I had no idea what was going on and had to get basically everything explained to me, the atmosphere was amazing and the people around us were all very welcoming and friendly. Even more so as the Angels won!
